The Nigerian Army has dismissed allegations made by a former soldier, Lance Corporal Rotimi Olamilekan, describing them as false and intended to mislead the public.
In a statement released in Abuja, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, said the ex-soldier, popularly known as “Soja Boi,” was discharged due to repeated acts of indiscipline.
She clarified that his dismissal followed due process in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and military regulations, and was not related to personal expression or opinions.
The Army spokesperson rejected claims suggesting that soldiers are poorly paid, explaining that the military operates a structured remuneration system.
According to her, salaries and allowances are regulated under the Manual of Financial Administration for the Armed Forces of Nigeria (MAFA) and are based on rank and years of service.
She added that personnel receive various allowances, including uniform, ration, and operational allowances, particularly for troops deployed in conflict zones such as Operation HADIN KAI in the North-East.
Col. Anele also dismissed assertions that soldiers purchase their own uniforms or protective gear.
She stated that the provision of military kits — including bulletproof vests, helmets, and uniforms — is the responsibility of the institution through established logistics channels.
According to her, while some personnel may choose to acquire additional gear for comfort, such actions are optional and do not reflect any systemic deficiency.
The Army described claims that troops are deployed without adequate protective equipment as baseless and potentially harmful.
Anele warned that spreading unverified information could undermine troop morale and erode public confidence in the military.
She urged the public and media organisations to rely on credible sources and verify information before dissemination.
Reaffirming its stance, the Nigerian Army said it remains committed to maintaining discipline, accountability, and the welfare of its personnel.
The statement added that the military will continue to uphold professional standards while carrying out its mandate to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
