Nigeria could attract more than $100 billion in investment across oil and gas, renewable energy, technology, agriculture, mining and other sectors under an investment mobilisation initiative announced by the Business Summit Group.
Haider Uzzaman, President of the Business Summit Group, disclosed the plan during a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday, August 11.
According to Uzzaman, international investors are increasingly examining business and investment opportunities in Nigeria, creating an opportunity to attract significant foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country.
He said the initiative is seeking to connect international capital with viable Nigerian projects across several sectors of the economy.
The targeted areas include oil and gas, technology, renewable energy, agriculture, mining and infrastructure.
Other sectors identified for potential investment are tourism and hospitality, education, healthcare and human capital development.
Uzzaman said priority would be given to structured and existing projects that have viable business models and the documentation necessary to attract serious investors.
He linked the investment initiative to what he described as approximately $58 trillion in global capital currently searching for viable investment opportunities.
Nigeria Remains Attractive to Investors
Uzzaman said Nigeria continues to offer significant investment potential despite challenges involving security and infrastructure.
He identified the country’s large population and oil production capacity as important factors that could make Nigeria attractive to international investors.
With a population exceeding 200 million, Nigeria represents one of Africa’s largest consumer markets and offers opportunities across several industries, he said.
Uzzaman also highlighted the country’s electricity sector as an area requiring substantially greater investment.
He argued that the present level of investment in electricity generation remains inadequate despite the Federal Government’s liberalisation policies.
Abuja to Host International Investors Summit
The Business Summit Group is also preparing to hold an International Investors Summit in Abuja from November 10 to November 11.
Uzzaman said the event would bring international investors, business executives, government representatives and project owners together to explore investment and partnership opportunities.
He explained that the group’s previous business summit took place in Bangkok, Thailand.
Following the event, participating Nigerian businesses and state governments encouraged the organisation to stage its next gathering in Nigeria, according to Uzzaman.
He said the decision reflects the group’s assessment of Nigeria’s natural resources, human capital, investment potential and strategic position within Africa and the wider global economy.
The Abuja summit is expected to provide a platform for Nigerian projects and businesses to present investment opportunities directly to prospective international investors.
Nigerian Businesses, States Urged to Participate
The Business Summit Group encouraged Nigerian companies, state governments and investment promotion agencies to participate in the upcoming summit.
Uzzaman said medium and large businesses seeking international financing, technology partnerships and access to new markets could benefit from the initiative.
State governments seeking to increase foreign direct investment into their economies were also encouraged to present viable projects to potential investors.
Uzzaman cited Plateau State as an example, saying the state had recorded investment commitments worth more than $1 billion during the previous six months.
The group called on other state governments, project developers and Nigerian business leaders to explore opportunities presented by the investment initiative and the forthcoming Abuja summit.
