The Inspector-General of Police (IGP),  Olatunji Disu,  alongside security experts and academics, has called for a shift from manpower-heavy strategies to technology-driven solutions in addressing insecurity in Nigeria.

The call was made in Abuja during an event held in honour of Peter Olumuji,  who recently earned a PhD in Security and Strategic Studies from Nasarawa State University, Keffi

Olumuji currently serves as Secretary of the FCT Administration Command and Control Centre, a facility established to enhance security monitoring through digital tools.

The centre integrates intelligence gathered from drones, CCTV systems, and other surveillance technologies to improve response and decision-making.

Speaking at the event, Disu emphasized the importance of continuous education and professional certification for security personnel.

He encouraged officers to develop specialized skills that align with modern security demands, noting that academic training enhances effectiveness in the field.

The IGP also commended Olumuji’s work ethic and dedication, describing him as a committed professional known for delivering results.

Similarly, the Vice-Chancellor of Bingham University Prof. Haruna Ayuba,  highlighted the importance of advanced training in security and strategic studies.

He noted that developing highly skilled experts is critical to addressing complex security challenges across the country.

Ayuba praised Olumuji’s dedication to research and learning, stating that his academic journey reflected a genuine commitment to knowledge.

Also speaking, Dr. Stephen Okore of the Nigerian Army University, Biu stressed the need for professionalism and competence within security agencies.

He said that improving expertise would strengthen the capacity of institutions to respond effectively to threats.

In his remarks, Adamu Gwary, Director of Security Services at the FCT Administration said the increasing number of highly educated personnel within the system would enhance strategic thinking and innovation.

He attributed Olumuji’s achievement to ongoing reforms in the capital’s security architecture under FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Responding, Olumuji underscored the importance of adopting modern technology in Nigeria’s security strategy.

He explained that integrating advanced tools would reduce dependence on human personnel and improve operational efficiency.

According to him, a technology-based approach would also help minimise risks faced by security operatives in the line of duty.

The stakeholders agreed that embracing innovation is key to building a more effective and sustainable **national security framework in Nigeria
