The Ministry of Information and Strategy, Niger, says it will partner with the  Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger Council to disseminate  government policies and developments in the state.

Hajiya Binta Mamman,  Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state stated this during a courtesy visit to the  council in Minna on Wednesday.

“There is the need for us to meet with the NUJ so that we can have a robust relationship that will benefit our people.

“We are here to partner with you in order to disseminate adequate and accurate information about Niger to the world.

“By this you can always advise the government on our policies and programs, so that our people will benefit.

“This is because the government and the ministry cannot do it alone, but with your partnership we can achieve more and move the state forward,” she said.

Mamman reiterated the ministry’s commitment to retrain journalists working in the state in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and modern journalism.

“We want you to sell Niger to the world, therefore we are looking at a situation where the ministry will start retraining members of NUJ, she said.

She promised to create the enabling environment for journalists in the state to perform optimally.

Earlier, Mr Abu Nmodu, the NUJ Chairman in the state appealed to the commissioner to provide the enabling environment for newsmen in the state to operate.

Nmodu urged the state government to invest massively in the state media; Radio Niger, Newsline Newspaper and Niger State Television to help in sensitizing the public on government policies and programs.

He assured her that members of the union would work with the ministry in the dissemination  of information about the state.
