Niger Assembly Committee on Works and Infrastructure, says it will not hesitate to sanction anyone found sabotaging Gov. Umaru Bago’s urban renewal initiative.

Chairman of the Committee, Mr Abubakar Gomna, said this during the 2024 budget defense in Minna.

He warned that any staff of the ministry, consultants and contractors found trying to sabotage efforts of the governor would be sanctioned.

He urged the ministry to be the eyes of the people and the governor to ensure that ongoing projects under construction were done according to contract specifications.

“The ministry is to be the eyes of Nigerlities and the governor, we have told them that we shall not hesitate to sanction any person found sabotaging the governor as far as urban renewal is concerned.

“The governor’s dream is through the ministry of works as it has a fundamental role to play in his administration as most projects will have direct bearing to the people.

“All hands must be on deck to ensure that tax payers monies are properly utilized and they get value for their money through execution of quality projects,” he said.

He said the committee would go round to inspect the projects and pledged its support to the ministry in any area that would bring about budget performance.

Earlier, Alhaji Hassan Etsu, Permanent Secretary, Niger Ministry for Works and Infrastructure Development, said 40 per cent of the N613 billion 2024 Budget was allocated to the ministry.

He promised that the ministry would work to ensure that urban renewal initiative of the governor was achieved as residents would begin to witness “a new Niger in few months time.

Etsu said the ministry had engaged consultants to ensure total quality control and management of projects through strict adherence to contract agreements.

He said the governor had directed staff of the ministry not to stay in office but should rather ensure effective monitoring of all ongoing projects construction.
