The Nigerian Communication Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) is ready to provide tele-medicine services to improve the health status of Nigerians.

The agency said in its bulletin in Abuja that the service would make healthcare available to the citizens and timely.

Tele-medicine is the use of telecommunication and information technologies to provide clinical healthcare at a distance.

It helps eliminate distance barriers and can improve access to medical services that would often not be consistently available in distant rural communities.

“Nigerians will be capable of staying in any remote part of the country where the service is offered to seek medical assistance from any medical expert located in any part of the country.

“Medical assistance can be got through this means even outside the country and it will equally help medical experts to do cross consultation among themselves without having to travel out of their location,” it said.

On e-banking, the publication affirmed the confidence of the organisation that the concept was already in the country to stay.

It added that the satellite would provide more robust resilient capacity to the banking industry making it to offer more seamless services.

It said that the satellite would make it easier, faster and more efficient for Nigerians to handle banking transactions.

“Online banking services are going to become a common place in Nigeria because the launching of the satellite will provide the much needed capacity to ensure a highly reliable online banking system.

“It will also save the country millions of dollars being transferred out of the country as fees for leasing huge capacity from other international operators.

“We can proudly say that we are self sufficient in that aspect in our country,” it said.
