A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Marycos Global Concept Limited, on Saturday awarded scholarship, to the tune of N6 million, to about 17 indigent Students from various Local Government Areas of Ebonyi.

The scholarship award is in collaboration with Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Foundation (BERWO), a pet project of the wife of the state Governor, Mrs MaryMaudline Nwifuru.

Speaking at the event held at Ezza-North Lical government, Mr Uchenna Nworie, Chairman of the NGO, said each student would be receiving N400,000.

Nworie said that the aim of the scholarship was to support the recipients’ education in various universities across the country.

According to him, this maiden humanitarian service will continue and be extended to other areas of interest to assist vulnerable people in the society.

Describing education as key to development of any society, Nworie urged more parents to embrace education of their children and wards.

“We are worried the way most students struggle financially to achieve their academic goals, especially in the area of professional courses.

“This gesture is a means of giving to God and the society for the development of our communities, state and nation.

“Also, because of financial instability, many vibrant and intellectual young people cannot afford to attend tertiary education because of lack of support and sponsorship.

“This is why, I want to give back to the society because education is the key to development in any society,” he said.

Nworie further appreciated Nwifuru for her support in humanitarian services so far to indigent persons in the state.

He also expressed gratitude to Chief Chibueze Nwabuikwu and Wife, Mrs Chinyere Nwabuikwu for positive impacts made in his live.

He urged the beneficiaries to live up to expectation.

Nwifuru, founder of BERWO, said regardless of status and net worth, Nworie was a worthy son of the state, who demonstrated to help and create a better world for the indigent students.

The governor’s wife expressed satisfaction towards passion and concerns of citizens in support for the needy.

She advised the recipients to make use of the scholarship for positive impact to their families and communities.

Some beneficiaries, Chiamaka Okafor, Gladys Onuma, Obinna Nwaeze commended the organiser and promised to make the state proud.
