The technical and development committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will welcome applications from interested qualified candidates to fill the position of the head coach of the Super Eagles in order to get the best hand before the start of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

The technical committee met on Tuesday to discuss issues relating to Nigerian football including reviewing the process that will lead to the selection of a substantive technical adviser for the Super Eagles with the Russia 2018 qualifiers looming and the final qualifier of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations where the team has already crashed out.

Even before the start of the bidding process for the substantive head coach of the Eagles, Goal learnt that committee chairman Christopher Green’s e-mail address has been inundated with applications from local and foreign coaches who desire to lead the team and that declaring the position open would make way for healthy competition.

The source that the NFF has not made up its mind on the identity of the technical adviser but that once the role has been declared open, the technical committee will immediately consider the applicants before shortlisting and inviting credible candidates.

“The technical committee unanimously agreed to throw the job of the Eagles’ head coach open so that the best can be gotten. Even before this is done, the chairman of the committee has received lots of application letters from willing coaches both within and outside Nigeria. We are declaring the post open so that the best coach can be appointed for the senior national team,” the source told Goal.

The Eagles have been without a substantive coach since the resignation of Sunday Oliseh in late February and two interim coaches: Samson Siasia and Salisu Yusuf have taken charge of the team’s last four matches.

The NFF has said that a new manager will be named in time before the commencement of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers in October.
