Nestle price growth lifts trading by 0.52%

Bears resurface on NGX, capitalisation down by N13bn

Some highly capitalised stocks on Thursday recorded price growth on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), reversing the negative trend.
Nestle led the gainers’ table with a gain of N12 to close at N725.50 per share.
It was followed by Stanbic IBTC which gained N1.58 to close at N25, while Dangote Cement appreciated by N1 to close at N160 per share.
Guaranty Trust Bank advanced by 58k to close at N26.63 and UACN grew by 47k to close at N14.47 per share.
Consequently,  the market capitalisation inched N45 billion or 0.51 per cent to close at N8.910 trillion compared with N8.865 trillion posted on Wednesday.
Similarly,  the All-Share Index rose by 132.06 points or 0.52  per cent to close at 25,753. 00 against 25,620.94 posted on Wednesday.
Mr Ambrose Omordion,  the Chief Operating Officer,  InvestData Ltd., attributed the appreciation to improved first quarter results announced by some companies for March 31, 2017.
Omordion said that the first quarter earnings reports signalled brighter  future for 2017 if the trend would be sustained in the future quarters.
On the other hand, Unilever recorded the highest loss to lead the losers’ chart, declining by N3.45 to close at N33.05 per share.
Lafarge Africa trailed with a loss of N3 to close at N48.50 and  Okomu Oil dipped 95k to close at N47.05 per share.
Dangote Flour was down by 19k to close at N4.09 , while Africa Prudential Registrar declined by 13k to close at N2.57 per share.
The banking sector remained the toast of investors with Access Bank  recording the highest volume of activities,  accounting for 104.62 million valued at N658. 23 million.
Fidelity Bank sold  33.66 million worth   N27.71 million, while Guaranty Trust Bank transacted 30.68 million shares worth N829.04 million.
Zenith Bank exchanged  30.17 million shares valued at  N447.56 million and Transcorp traded 26.38 million shares worth N22.59 million.
