Nestle Nigeria Ltd, on Saturday, inaugurated the newly renovated Ajaka Primary Health Centre with a perimeter fence in Shagamu.

The Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Manager of the company, Mrs. Victoria Uwadoka,  said that the renovation of the facility was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

Uwadoka said that the gesture would improve health service delivery in the area as well as enhance grassroots approach towards universal and equitable health care for all.

She said that it was sad that most primary health centres across the country lacked the capacity to provide essential services, to deserving patients.

According to her, Nestlé is contributing in the move to change such narrative, with the refurbishment of the facility as well as providing the necessary equipment for its laboratory unit.

She said that part of the work done in the facility included construction of sanitation facilities and a kitchenette, installation of alternate source of power supply and construction of a new laboratory.

“At Nestlé, we recognise that access to adequate healthcare delivery is crucial for the improvement of  quality of life.

“This is why we invest in the improvement of healthcare delivery through various projects,” she said.

Uwadoka said that no fewer than 200,000 residents of the area would have access to improved healthcare from the facility.

Also, the Commissioner for Health in Ogun, Dr. Tomi Coker, commended the company for its continued investment in the health sector of the state.

Coker was represented by Executive Secretary, Ogun State Primary Health Care Board, Dr Elijah Ogunsola.

The commissioner said that the facility would, henceforth, benefit from the disbursement of monthly running cost as approved by the state government for all health facilities in the 236 wards of the state.

He said that the state government was open to collaborating with the private sector towards the improvement of healthcare delivery in the state.

Also, Chairman, Royal Initiative for the Development of Sagamu Community (RIDSCO),  Omoba Oyedele, said that the people of the area were excited by the gesture.

Oyedele said that they would continue to work with the company in the interest of the community.

“I sincerely appreciate Nestlé for a project well executed and for its continued investment in Sagamu,” Oyedele said.
