NDLEA: Kashamu’s house arrest in line with legal process of extradition

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator-elect, Ogun East District, Buruji Kashamu, received uninvited guests on Saturday morning.
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) stormed his Lagos residence at 5.30am and prevented him, members of his family and domestic aides from leaving.
Nobody was also allowed to enter the residence.
A statement by the NDLEA said Kashamu would be confined to his residence, pending the time he would appear in court on Monday when extradition procedures will commence against him.
Kashamu, the Chairman of South-West Mobilisation Committee for the PDP, is wanted in the United States (U.S.) on drug-related charges.
NDLEA spokesman, Mitchel Ofoyeju, confirmed the development.
Ofoyeju quoted the NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade, as saying Kashamu’s ‘house arrest’ “is in line with the legal process of extradition”.
“The Agency has commenced extradition procedures against Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu, in line with the laws of country. He has been in contact with his attorneys and will appear in court on Monday.”
Kashamu’s media aide, Austin Oniyokor, had earlier, in a statement, accused PDP chieftain, Chief Olabode George, of being the brain behind his travail.
But, when contacted, George, who is in London, said Kashamu should tell Nigerians the truth about those behind the plan to extradite him.
