Youths from Eastern Obolo, an Ijaw-speaking local government area in Akwa Ibom State, have commended the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr Nsima Ekere, for the completed reconstruction of Ikot Akpaden – Okoroette Road, the only access road to their area.
The youth, coming on the platform of ONE Sure Project and drawn from all 10 wards of Eastern Obolo, made the commendation during a solidarity visit to Ekere at his residence in Uyo on Saturday.

Speaking through their leader, Mr Ama Williams, the youth also appreciated the NDDC boss for the ongoing construction of the Okoroette – Amadaka Road, internal roads in Okoroette, the local government headquarters, and Iko Town as well as Okoroette Health Centre.

They urged Ekere to contest the 2019 gubernatorial election in Akwa Ibom State, promising him total support in Eastern Obolo as grassroots’ mobilizers in the creeks.

“This is an opportunity we don’t want you to miss,” Mr Williams said.

In his response, Ekere disclosed that more projects were allocated for Eastern Obolo in the 2018 NDDC budget in recognition of Eastern Obolo’s importance as a major oil-producing area and to redress the neglect by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Government.

“We will triple all the projects we are doing in Eastern Obolo,” he promised.

Ekere went down memory lane, recalling the steadfast support he has enjoyed from Eastern Obolo people in his political career over the years, starting with his election into the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly in December 1997.

Present during the visit were the Member representing Essien Udim State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Sir Nse Ntuen, the immediate past Commissioner for Labour and Productivity, Barr Ibanga Akpabio, and the State Welfare Secretary of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), Chief Sunny Ibanga.
