To ensure the improvement of quality service and protection of telecom infrastructure across the country,
the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has organised a Village Square Dialogue in Kano State.
The event under the theme – ‘Protection of Telecom infrastructure for improved quality of service, the role of residents, – held in Danbatta Local Government Area of the North-West State.
Speaking to participants, NCC Zonal Controller in Kano, Malam Shua’aibu Swade, said there is need for a robust sensitisation on the need to solicit for community’s cooperation in protecting and guarding telecom structures for improved quality services to consumers.
He further stated that there is also a need for communities to understand that it is a duty upon them not to damage telecom infrastructure and also allow installation of equipment and maintenance and or repairs on sites by technical staff of service providers for quality telecom service delivery.
NCC Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, said the commission received over 40 vandalisation reports on telecom structures across the federation daily and as such, there is a need for all stakeholders to put hands together in protecting the structures as theirs.
Represented by NCC Director, Technical Standard and Network Integrity, Engr Bako Wakili, Danbatta stated that the commission has decided to sensitise the public on the importance for communities to own up the structure.
He said vandalisation of telecom infrastructure reduces the quality of service as well as reduces coverage area leading to dead spots on the network which result in poor quality of service adding that the act will also discourage investors from investing in Nigeria should their infrastructures be continuously vandalized or stolen.
