Naira devaluation: TUC seeks pay rise for workers

Following the continuous devaluation of naira, workers are seeking pay rise from the Federal Government.
This position was made known on Wednesday in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, by the President-General of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Mr Bobboi Kaigama.
He said the union had already sent its demands to the Salaries and Wages Commission for consideration.
“The continuous devaluation of the naira has very negative effect on the Nigerian worker and something has to be done urgently to reduce the effect.
“We have already sent our demand for pay rise to the salaries and wages commission for quick consideration,” he said.
Kaigama also advised politicians to shun politics of tribe, religion and bitterness but focus on issues in order to foster development in the country.
“Anybody who brings his or her religion, tribe and region into politics has nothing to offer and should be shunned by the people,” he said
Kaigama however, assured workers that the houses recently launched by President Goodluck Jonathan would be completed before the end of 2015.
The TUC boss urged all stakeholders to ensure the success of the February general elections to pave the way for the desired development.
