NADCEL 2023: Nigerian Army takes medical outreach to Ibadan community

The Nigerian Army (NA) says in continuation of its activities lined up for the 2023 Army Day Celebration, it has conducted a one-day medical outreach in Oja Oba community, Ibadan.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu.

Nwachukwu said that the event witnessed large number of residents who took advantage of the free medical outreach to access tests and treatment for diverse ailments.

According to him, these include high blood pressure, diabetes, dental, heart, eye and other health challenges, as well as free medical checkup.

He stated that the Nigerian Army also distributed free drugs, eye glasses, crutches and wheel chairs to the persons with disabilities, while health talks and counseling were also conducted to sensitize the community.

He said while declaring the medical outreach program opened, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, said that the choice of Oja Oba community for the exercise was intentional.

Lagbaja said that the program was to plough back to the people of Ibadan due to their support and cooperation to the NA in the discharge of its constitutional mandate

The COAS, represented by the Chief of Transformation and Innovations Army (COTI) Maj.-Gen. Zakari Abubakar, said that the program was to commemorate the 160th year of Nigerian Army’s existence.

The COAS assured the community that the NA would continue to provide platform that would further strengthen the existing cordial relationship with the NA.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Ibadan South East Local Government Area, Mr Emmanuel Olawale, thanked the NA for its kind gesture.

Olawale said that the people of Oja Oba community were delighted to have the NA medical team in their midst to provide free medical services.

He commended the Army for ensuring the security of lives and property of people in Ibadan and contiguous areas.

Present at the event were Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Olalekan Balogun, Chairman, NADCEL 2023, Maj.-Gen. Victor Onumajuru, General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Maj.-Gen. Takuti Usman, Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters, among others.
