Music producer Babatunde Okungbowa, OJB Jazreel, dies of kidney related disease

Veteran Nigerian music producer and singer, Babatunde Okungbowa, popularly known as OJB Jazreel on Tuesday died of kidney related ailment at the Isolo General Hospital, Lagos.

The producer had in 2013 successfully undergone a kidney transplant in India.

Reports had it that the kidney was donated to him by his first wife, Mabel Okungbowa, popularly known as Mama J which aided his recovery.

Reports also said that following signs of failing health by the late Okungbowa, he was placed on kidney dialysis at a cost of N35,000 daily until his demise on Tuesday morning.

The producer, who is survived by three wives and eight children, died just a month to his 50th birthday.

He founded the OJB Foundation in 2013, aimed at creating more dialysis centres across Africa to assist individuals with kidney condition.

Okungbowa, born on July 4, 1966, was the creative force behind numerous musical hits of countless Nigerian artistes which included; Rugged man, 2Face Idibia, Jazzman Olofin, Nomoreloss to Raskie, K-Show & Six-O, C-mion, Abounce among others.

He was the director of an ambitious new multimedia outfit called One Beat and had been part of Kennis Music and Westside Music labels at different points in his career.

He is known for popular tracks such as “No drama’’, “Gbemileke’’ , “Jah’s my lite ,’’ “Searching’’ from the 2006 album, and “Lover’s anthem’’ from the 2010 album; “Jigga’s world’’.
