Ogun Govt pays N4.7bn to council pensioners in eight months

The Ogun State Government has revealed that more than 80 per cent of owners of the structures demolished by the government for road construction in the state do not have title documents.
Mr Kayode Ademolake, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure in the state, stated this in a statement in Abeokuta on Sunday.
He stated that Governor Ibikunle Amosun, nonetheless, directed that owners of such demolished buildings be compensated.
“We are conscious of the fact that those structures are physically on ground there and we know that in those days there were no documents.

“Government knows that following official procedures will result to throwing families into hard conditions.

“It is better once we find a structure on ground according to the governor’s instruction they should be compensated,’’ he said in the statement.

Ademolake added that more than 80 per cent of those that fell into this category had no building approvals, observing that many of the buildings were constructed more than 80 years to 100 years ago.

“So once we get there and capture them pictorially, we give them number and immediately call for the evaluation of the property and they are compensated accordingly.

“The issue of compensation is fractional, it is in different stages, some were not compensated monetarily for their houses but have their houses repaired for them by the government.

“ Mostly along these roads, when you see houses with green roofs, that is a sign that these houses were reconstructed by the government.

“The second category of people is those that were compensated monetarily,’’ he noted.

He pointed out that all roads that were being constructed in the state had stipulated time of completion, insisting they would be completed in time.
