Two months after celebrating his 70th birthday, Senator Jonathan Silas Zwingina, who represented Adamawa South District in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, is dead.
Zwingina became a national figure as the Director-General (D-G) of the MKO Abiola Campaign Organisation in the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola won the election which was annulled by the then Commander-in-Chief and Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida.
Abiola was arrested by the late General Sani Abacha and died in detention on July 7, 1998 during the regime of General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
A source said Zwingina died in Abuja.
The Adamawa-born politician was a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998 and served as the Senate Majority Leader for two terms.
He later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
