A senior Consultant Physician in Kano State, Dr. Ibrahim, is dead.
He reportedly died minutes after arriving Arewa Surgery Hospital in Hotoro area of Kano to attend to patients.
Ibrahim was off-duty but because the doctor who was to attend to patients in the hospital was not available, he volunteered to go and attend to them.
As he stepped out of his vehicle, he became dizzy and collapsed. He was rushed to the emergency ward but efforts to revive him failed.
He was pronounced dead, 15 minutes after his arrival.
Freedom Online learned that the patients, mostly elders, waited for hours for their scheduled appointments before Ibrahim volunteered to attend to them.
Suleiman Harbo, an aide to Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, was in the hospital when the incident happened.
Harbo accompanied his elderly mother to the hospital.
He said he arrived at the hospital around 5 p.m. with his mother, only to be informed that the doctor scheduled to attend to patients would not be available.
Hospital officials subsequently informed them that Ibrahim had agreed to take over the evening clinic.
About six patients, most of them over 80 years, waited for Ibrahim’s arrival.
Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Ibrahim reportedly became dizzy as he stepped out of his vehicle.

He was immediately rushed to the emergency ward, where senior doctors made efforts to revive him. He was pronounced dead about 15 minutes later.
