Sunshine Stars compound MFM FC's woes with 2-1 defeat

MFM Football Club

Lagos-based MFM FC head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, on Monday said he was not gutted with his team’s performance in spite of the 0-2 loss to Enyimba on Sunday in Aba.
The youthful coach said that though his team was relatively young, they would gather experience as they progress in the league.
The Olukoya Boys suffered a 0-2 bashing against the Peoples Elephant in one of the opening fixtures of the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), played in Aba.
The Ilechukwu-tutored team had lost some of its key players in the last transfer window, including Sikiru Olatunbosun, who joined Plateau United, Chukwuka Oniwa and other six players.
This means that the team will have to prosecute the new top flight season with relatively new and young squad alongside Captain Austine Opara, Zikiye Jonathan, Abisoye Olawale, Julius Emiloju, Chijioke Akuneto.
Ilechukwu on his relative fusion of rookie players and experienced said he was not worried with the loss.
“I am not disappointed. I am not because we played a better side honestly speaking. Enyimba is a big team, we just tried if we can and that’s football. I must admit that there is plenty of work to do in the attack.
“I think we really need serious work in converting chances which has been a problem even in our pre-season games.
“You know when you have a lot of young players in the attack, I expect such a thing and that was why we tried to get one or two experienced players but we couldn’t,’’ he concluded.
The People’s Elephant claimed the full points with a 2-0 win over MFM in a match played at the Enyimba International Stadium, courtesy of a goal each from Nelson Ogbonnaya and Abdulrahman Bashir.
MFM FC hopes to bounce back from this defeat when they host Kwara United in Matchday 2 of the NPFL at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium on Wednesday.
