Messi becomes first player to score 300 La Liga goals

Lionel Messi became the first player to score 300 La Liga goals on Wednesday, after netting against Sporting Gijon in Barcelona’s La Liga clash.
The Argentina international has broken every record there is available to break, but he was yet to hit the 300 mark in the top-flight.
However, that was swiftly notched up on Wednesday against Gijon, as he gave Barcelona the lead in the first half with a stunning strike from outside the penalty box.
The goal came just when Barcelona were feeling rather frustrated by Gijon’s strong defending and it became even more annoying for Luis Enrique’s side when the home team equalised, following a fantastic counter-attack.
Messi, however, restored the lead after fine work from Luis Suarez and in turn grabbed his 301st La Liga goal swiftly after his 300th.
There are not many records left for Messi to break, but Wednesday’s one almost certainly ensures his name as one of La Liga’s finest, if not best, ever players.
