A mediator, Mufutau Sanni, on Sunday, sustained injuries in a street clash at Ring Road, Mobil area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Sanni, a lottery kiosk operator, popularly known as “Baba Ijebu” , was reportedly injured while settling a dispute between a trader and his customer in the area.

A witness, said that trouble started when an argument ensued between the trader and his customer.

It was gathered that this development caused Sanni to intervene with the motive of resolving the matter.

The witness said that Sanni’s intervention, however, did not go down well with the trader and his friends, who are majorly commercial motorcycle operators in the area.

In the process, the trader’s friend allegedly pounced on Sanni, while one of them allegedly stabbed him.

“The attack on Sanni landed him in a nearby hospital,” the source said.

When contacted, SP Adewale Osifeso, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the incident

He said: “About 10.30 a.m on Sunday upon the receipt of a distress call, operatives of the Oyo State Command responded to an alleged breach of peace situation around Mobil Area Ring Road, Ibadan.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim ‘m’, (name undisclosed as of now), was escorted off the scene by police after suffering deep cuts on his body.

“The incident is closely being monitored and Police operational and tactical assets have been deployed to forestall any untoward happenings,” Osifeso said.

He further said that the victim was responding favourably to medical intervention provided for him, saying “he is very much alive” .

According to him, the command remains committed to the protection of lives and property.

Osifeso said that updates regarding the ongoing investigation would be provided accordingly.
