Mayweather doesn’t know what to expect from Pacquiao

Even Floyd Mayweather Jr. does not know what he will see from Manny Pacquiao when the two pound-for-pound kings face off on May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
“I really don’t know,” Mayweather told David Mayo when asked what he expects from the Filipino ring legend.
Mayweather is known for not studying tapes of opponents, preferring instead to focus on himself and his own skills during training camp.
Although the Pacquiao fight is arguably the biggest challenge of his career, the American champion sees no need to change his routine – one that has served him well for nearly two decades now.
“I think my focus is always being in control and dictating the pace,” he said.
“You’ve got guys who throw a lot of punches. You know, a majority of the time, I think that everyone game-plans to throw a lot of punches,” he added.
“It hasn’t worked so far.”
Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, has said that he wants Pacquiao to get off to a fast start against Mayweather, and immediately take the American boxer off balance.
“We want to start fast. I want to take Mayweather out of his comfort zone right away. Maybe he is going to be landing combinations, (moving) in and out, making him miss,” Roach said in an interview last March.
“I see a very aggressive start in this fight,” he added.
Several fighters have vowed to be aggressive against Mayweather, and his most recent opponent, Marcos Maidana of Argentina, showed in 2014 that it was possible to keep the pressure on the unbeaten boxer for 12 rounds.
Pacquiao, however, is faster than Maidana, who was out-pointed by Mayweather in their two fights last year.
“I think the exchanges are gonna be great, because they both have great hand speed,” Roach said. “But Manny has a lot more power than he does, so I feel that’s where we have the strength.”
