Matriculation: OAU restates zero tolerance for cultism, exam malpractices
The Vice-chancellor (VC), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Prof Simeon Bamire, has restated the Institution’s  zero tolerance for cultism and examination malpractices among other vices.
Bamire, represented by Deputy Vice-chancellor (Administration), Prof Bola Babalola, stated this during the Matriculation Ceremony for newly- admitted students for the 2023/2024 academic session, on Thursday at Ile-Ife.
He said that the University, since inception, has produced high-quality personnel with a view to meeting the needs of national and international workforces.
Bamire enjoined them to work harder by improving, refining and defining who they are, for them to see the world from more enlightened perspectives.
He noted that the’Great Ife’, as the university is popularly called, has been a repository of knowledge and intellectual excellence for decades.
He urged the new students to utilize every minute of their time in this University wisely allocated and spent.
He congratulated them for being chosen from the 30,000 candidates that sat for the Post-UTME screening for Obafemi Awolowo University.
The Vice-Chancellor advised them to make determined effort to ensure that they succeed in the University so as to justify their admission.
The VC warned freshers against pitfalls of those whose perception of a University is that of a place of unlimited freedom without a corresponding degree of responsibility.
He asked them to combine academic excellence with culture of “Omoluabi” in a challenging, competitive and diverse academic environment.
The Don admonished them to beware of miscreants, particularly from other universities and institutions, who may want to lure them into social vices that are now prevalent in the society.
He asked them to do away with any anti-social behaviours that may disrupt the smooth running of the University and unnecessarily truncating or elongating the academic calendar.
The VC implored them to choose friends that will positively influence them and cultivate attitudes that will lead them to overall success.
Bamire notified them that the institution has zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractices, violent behavior, flagrant disregard to constituted authorities and all forms of sexual harassment.
He congratulated the students, parents and guardians and assured them that their children are in safe hands and would be well trained while on campus.
