MASSOB to Jonathan, NASS: Sack Jega now

Two weeks to the presidential and National Assembly elections, the call for the sack of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, came to the fore again on Friday.
To the leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign States of Biafra (MASSOB), President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Assembly must sack Jega before the election “because he has since lost the capability of conducting the forthcoming general elections for the country”.
The group said since Jega alloted over 90 per cent of the polling units to the North, the confidence reposed in him has faded off and he has shown that he will be biased during the elections.
MASSOB Zonal Administrator and Coordinator of the group in Delta North axis of Delta State, Mr. Emeka Okafor, who led his members on a peaceful protest in Asaba with placards’s inscription “JEGA MUST GO”, appealed to the Federal Government and National Assembly to speed up action on his removal.
According to the group, for peace to prevail before, during and after the elections, Jega must be sacked.
“Jega allots 90 per cent of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to Northerners and only 10 per cent to Southerners. In view of this, he is not capable of conducting the 2015 general elections”.
While appealing to Jega to vacate the seat for the sake of one Nigeria, the group noted: “When crisis erupts, the Southerners and their property are the target and to avoid a reoccurrence of 1964 pre-election crisis, when we lost most of the Southerners, we want Jega to leave because this time around that we are still Nigerians, we will not fold our alms and watch such happen again”.
The MASSOB leader, however, insisted that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan must continue in office to deliver on his transformation agenda.
“There is never a time the North agitates for one Nigeria but the South does. Even in 1957 when the Southerners were calling for Nigeria’s independence, the North rejected the call,” he stressed.
On the use of Card Readers for the elections, Okafor said that the last Saturday test-run showed that the card readers would cause chaos at the polling units, noting that the smart card reader could have been used before now.
The Commandant, Delta North zone of MASSOB, Mr. Ignatius Adiliajana, observed that the group lost confidence in Jega because he has since displayed high level of partiality by not distributing the PVCs evenly across the nation.
