One of the greatest evils plaguing our world was lack of persons who are genuinely gifted with leadership. Very often those who wield the baton were those to be led themselves.
But among those who are called to bear responsibility for the attainment of some goals and objectives, and who recognises a responsibility for service, I know of a man who has translated his life into action for service.
Among men who will give of themselves and expect nothing in return, save only the joy of experiencing the joys permitted through him to others, I know of one who cares about his promise.
Among leaders who are consumed by a desire to serve I can tell you of one whose goals and aspirations pulsate in harmonious interplay with our wishes and dreams as a nation and a people.
People of the Federal Republic, among men who occupied authoritative position and who have become a medium through whom that which belongs only to the eternal source of all can flow in varying measures to all who need it, there is a General whose sole concern is our growth; and single joy our happiness.
If you ask of men, who are striving vigorously to take their place alongside such men and heroes in the pantheon of leadership, to tell you one thing the world needs to know about this fellow, they will tell you that Men like him are like Haley’s Comet – they come once in a century. Yes, they are right.
Of all the politicians who have confronted us in their works; and who have concerned themselves with the task of inaugurating a rich and happy life on this soil, General Muhammed Buba Marwa [rtd] is one of the few on the progressive side of politics.
While some revere him for his brilliance, depth and special ardour, others adore him for his clout, grace and swagger. While some hold him in special esteem for the skill with which he carries out his tasks, I see him for what he is: a game-changer who sees political office as a step to what is higher and better. But a friend of mine captures it best, he said “Buba Marwa is a launching pad for those who are striving towards the ideal”.
Call him the great General, a revered leader, a builder, a fearless performer or a bold reformer, one thing we can all assert with unflinching conviction as we celebrate this courageous role model and character of rich meanings who has been hailed for many reasons, is that Marwa is one of few leaders on this side of matter who knows when it hurts, why it hurts and what to do to ease the pain of being hurt.
As your political children, we are pleased and proud to proclaim you before the world as our leader, role-model and guardian.
Happy birthday our Dear General. We pray that your tenure as the Chairman NDLEA remain blessed with brightness of continuous achievement and good health.
