Many injured, vehicles smashed as PDP, APC members clash in Jos

Pandemonium broke out on Tuesday in Gyel, Jos South Local Government, Plateau State when the campaign train of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was attacked by some thugs suspected to be working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Five vehicles in the APC convoy were vandalised.
Some APC youths resisted the thugs, almost leading to a breakdown of law and order.
Policemen later stormed the area to restore order.
Many teargas canisters were used to disperse the combatants.
The crisis started when APC members visited the Dagwom Rwei of Jos South, Da Dr Nga Dangyang, to seek his royal blessing for the March 28 and April 11 general elections.
As soon as they left the palace, the PDP thugs attacked the APC convoy, shouting: ”We don’t want APC in this place but PDP”.
The Director, Media and Publicity, Lalong Tyeden Campaign Organisation, Festus Funter, condemned the unprovoked attack.
“The act is unfortunate, barbaric and only goes to show how desperate our opponents are getting, knowing that they are definitely going to lose the forthcoming elections. I wish to use this medium to commend our supporters for the calmness and maturity they exhibited in the face of the unprovoked attack.
“As a matter of fact, our supporters contributed money and gave one of the attackers for his treatment after sustaining a deep cut on his arm when he used his hand to smash the windscreen of one of our cars. This is a very rare situation in our politics in Nigeria but because of our commitment to a peaceful change, we were able to calm the situation. And since victory is in sight, we will remain focused and resist any form of violence that will blow no good to any one”.
