Producers of skin care products, Evans Industry Limited, makers of Eva, Unik and meditol soap and their sister company, Ekulo International, subsidiaries of Ekulo Group of Companies (General merchants),
have decried high rate of infiltration of fake products in the market, which could be harmful to the body.
Brand Manager, Ekulo International, wine and spirits, Michael Adewale, who expressed sadness over the issue of fake products, lamented that their companies were also hit by the trend.
Adewale spoke on Wednesday, at the 32nd Enugu International trade fair.
According to him, their company, Ekulo international is the sole distributor of Goya Olive Oil (original) in Nigeria. Unfortunately, the product was faked.
“All Goya are in bottles. Any Goya in plastic is fake. There is a seal there indicating Goya olive oil and the bottles are in 89ml, 250 ml, 500 ml and 1 litre ,” he said.
Adewale said Ekulo international imports food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic wine, spirit, Gins. They also import , butter, sardine , biscuits, cornbeef among others.
On his part, Category manager, Tochukwu Aralu said,’ We have over hundred products. We are a group of companies. We take time to manufacture our products and we promise we give Nigeria what we display.”
On what they had done concerning the fake Goya olive oil, Aralu said they were working with NAFDAC to stop the production of fake goya olive oil..’ Goya is not even manufactured in Nigeria. It’s manufactured in Spain. Anywhere you see plastic Goya, it is fake ‘, he said.
On the impact of COVID-19 on their company, the Category manager said the exchange rate keep rising, it affects every business.”

Speaking also, Stephanie Okonkwo, , Marketing personnel , Evans industrry, (a subsidiary of Ekulo group of companies), said they are the manufacturers of Eva soap, unfortunately, some people faked the product.”We have fake Eva soap in the market. The fake Eva soap has no logo and the picture of the model has a packed hair ,while the original Eva soap has the model”s hair full and it has NAFDAC number. “The fragnance of fake Eva soap disappears fast while the fragnance of the original Eva soap lasts till the soap finishes”,’ she said
Okonkwo said that they educate people on the differences between the original and the fake Eva soap so that they don’t buy the fake one. ‘
The marketing personnel urged people not to patronise the fake products.
