A businessman, Friday Egbele, who allegedly removed his female neighbour’s three teeth with a blow for fighting his wife, was on Friday arraigned in Lagos.
Egbele, 34, a resident of No. 10, Remi Ogunjimi St., Egbeda , Lagos, is being tried for breach of peace and assault at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The Prosecutor, Corporal Mike Unah, told the court that the accused committed the offences on October 10 at his residence.
He said that the accused unlawfully assaulted his neighbour, Mrs Anita Vincent, by giving her blows and in the process, removed her three front teeth.
“The accused assaulted his neighbour by beating and removing her three front teeth through a blow.”
Unah said the accused’s wife and the complainant were fighting over an undisclosed issue and that the accused supported his wife by beating up the complainant.
“The accused’s wife and the complainant were fighting and the wife phoned him to come home.
“The accused rushed to the house and instead of settling the fight, he dragged the complainant on the ground and descended on her,” he said.
The offences, Unah noted, contravened Sections 166 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 171 prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Gbajumo, adjourned the case to November 11 for mention.
