DETECTIVES of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a middle-aged man, Mr. Ojo, for allegedly killing the lover of his 20-year old daughter in Idanre, Idanre Local Government.
The 22-year-old deceased commercial motorcyclist (Okada) simply identified as Ego George, was said to have been killed by the middle-age farmer for dating his daughter, Feyi Ojo.
Feyi is a secondary school student in Idanre.
The incident happened at Jemgbe Camp, one of the villages in the council area.
While the suspect is a native of Kabba, Kogi State, the deceased hailed from Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Mother of the deceased, Mrs Grace George, is demanding for justice.
In a chat with newsmen, she alleged that prior to the unfortunate incident, there had been ‘frequent threats’ from Mr Ojo to kill Ego should he not leave his daughter alone.
She alleged that after killing his son, Mr Ojo hanged him to make it look like he committed suicide, explaining that a day before the tragic incident, he came with a policeman to arrest his son, whom according to her, was staying in his own house.
Her words: “He (Ojo) came to Ego’s house in Jemgbe to arrest him on Wednesday night (July 31, 2013) with the police. But did not meet him at home.
“The following day which is Thursday (August 1), Ego was reportedly missing. They later saw Ego’s corpse in the bush on Monday (August 5)”.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Wole Ogodo, said the body of the deceased had been taken to hospital for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Ogodo revealed that the suspect had been arrested and transferred to state CID, Akure.
His words: “From the briefs I have gotten so far, I think what happened was that a case of suicide was reported to DPO Idanre.
“As police was trying to take action, went to that place to remove the boy from the hanging tree, they said the Baale of that place said before the boy is removed, that it was a taboo and some rituals had to be performed.
“So, while doing that, the DPO saw Ojo, tactically brought him to station and arrested him.
“While doing that, the mother of the deceased alleged that about four days ago, there was a rift between her son and one Ojo, alleging that he was dating his daughter. That she never believed that her son could commit suicide. So, the case was transferred to State CID.
“The corpse was removed from the hanging tree. They have taken it to hospital for autopsy to determine whether it was suicide or murder. Ojo is still in detention at State CID, Akure”.
