An Ikeja High Court sentenced a man, Vincent Edeh, to 21 years imprisonment on Friday for stabbing a woman to death with a knife.
Edeh was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Justice Oyindamola Ogala sentenced Edeh to the prison term after he pleaded guilty to the charge of involuntary manslaughter.
The court ruled that Edeh’s time at the correctional centre begins from July 6, 2020, the date since when he had been in detention.
State Prosecutor, Mrs Abike Oluwasanmi, had earlier told the court that Edeh committed the offence on July 6, 2020 at No.14, Nwobodo Eze St., Ajao Estate, Isolo, Lagos.
She said Edeh killed one Oghechi Umunnakwe by stabbing her with a knife in an unresolved argument.
She said the offence contravened the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015
Oluwasanmi also told the court of a plea bargain application made by the defence, dated March 21, which proposed 21 years jail term for Edeh.
The defence counsel, Mrs Gloria Odimba, also confirmed the acceptance of the plea bargain on behalf of her client.
Meanwhile, Osun Police Police Command, on Friday, said it arrested one Abdulafeez Shorinmade of Feesu Iwo, Iwo Local Government Area, for allegedly killing a 20-year old girl by stabbing her in the neck with a pair of scissors.
A statement by SP Yemisi Opalola, the Command’s Spokesperson, said the suspect also stabbed another 18-year old girl on the chin before he was apprehended.
“On Wednesday, at about 9:30 p.m., at Kajola Area Iwo, one Abdulafeez Shorinmade of Feesu Iwo, suspected to be under the influence of drugs, armed himself with a pair of scissors and stabbed one Rofiyat Rasaki, 20 years old, on her neck which caused her to bleed to death.
“The suspect fled the scene and on getting to Soba Compound, he again stabbed another female by name Sawiyu Nasrup, 18 years old, on her chin.
“The Divisional Police Officer in Iwo and his team swiftly raced to both scenes of crime, after receiving reports of the incidents, went after the suspect and subsequently arrested him.
“The injured person was rushed to the hospital where she was treated and discharged while the corpse of the second victim was taken to the general hospital for certification and preservation for autopsy,” she said.
Opalola added that the police was, however, monitoring the area and the entire town and that further development would be communicated to the public.
