Police detectives in Adamawa State have arrested a 24-year-old cattle rearer, Baffa Alti, for beheading his five-year-old son, Buba, for N1 million.
When he was interrogated, he confessed to the crime, saying it was the ward head of Ganji Village, Alhaji Sange Hassan, who told him to bring a human head for N1 million.
The 63-year-old Hassan has been arrested.
Baffa said he intended to use the money to raise the status of his father, mother and his own family.
The incident occurred in Ganji suburb of Gombi Local Government of Adamawa State.
The accused lured Buba to the farm, killed and beheaded him.
The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ibrahim Mohammed (DSP), told newsmen that the father of the prime suspect, Alhaji Alti Guza, had earlier reported to the police in Gombi that his grandson was missing.
Guza also told the police that the boy went to the farm with Baffa, only for him to return home without Buba.
According to the police, when Guza accosted his son of the whereabout of his grandson, he told his father that he left him
(grandson) behind in the farm and that he will return later.
When the boy did not return from the farm, Guza reported at the Gombi Divisional Police Station where a search party was organised.
The search led to the discovery of the beheaded and decomposing body of Buba under a tree in the farm and covered with leaves.
Immediately, Baffa ran away but was later arrested.
During interrogation, he mentioned Hassan.
But Hassan denied telling Baffa to behead his own son for N1 million.
Answering a question on what to do with the money if given, he said he wanted to buy more cattle for rearing and also take adequate care of his family, most especially his aged parents.
DSP Muhammad said that as soon as investigations are concluded, the suspected would be charged to court.
