Malawi FA makes U-turn Calabar

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) have retracted their initial criticisms of Calabar when they declared that they were not comfortable with the Tourist City as a suitable venue to host this weekend’s World Cup qualifying encounter.

The Malawi FA sent a two-man advance party on Tuesday which comprised of FAM Secretary-General, Suzgo Nyirenda, and the association’s accountant Christopher Mdoloto, to carry out preliminary inspections, and the duo were impressed with the reception of the Nigerian delegation.

In a statement released to the local media on Tuesday, FAM disclosed that their Nigerian counterparts have been very hospitable contrary to their expectations.

“NFF has provided every support required and they are no stone unturned in making sure that all is set for the game.

“Everyone in Calabar is talking about the game and the game fever is so high here,” the statement read.

The statement also disclosed that the Malawian delegation were favourable to the Dannic Hotel as a result of its closeness to the U. J. Esuene Stadium.

“In terms of weather, it has been showering as they are still in the rainy season in Nigeria. It is generally cool and I think our players will like the weather,” Nyirenda is quoted to have said.
