Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Thursday in Ibadan promised to consolidate on his administration’s achievements in the health and sports sectors by completing key projects soon.
Makinde made the promise while swearing in two new commissioners assigned to the ministries in the two sectors.
The commissioners are Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi and Miss Wasilat Adegoke, as Commissioners for Health and for Youth and Sports respectively,
“My government will complete the final phase of the 351 Primary Health Centres and the second phase of the remodeled Lekan Salami Sports Complex at Adamasingba in Ibadan,” Makinde said.
He charged the duo of Ajetunmobi and Adegoke to key into his vision for the sustainable development of the state.
The governor equally urged them not to be afraid of taking actions in their respective ministries.
“It is important for all members of the state’s Executive Council to study and understand the objectives of the Roadmap for the Sustainable Development of Oyo State, 2023-2027 and to key into same in their respective ministries,” he said.
Gov. Makinde specifically asked the Commissioner for Health to work on seeing to the fulfillment of promises in the sector.
”Also, we must drive an increase in revenue through the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency, and upgrade the tertiary healthcare infrastructure in the state, among others.”
Addressing the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, the governor stated that his administration remained committed to harnessing the potential of the teeming youth population in the state.
“One thing that I think you should also make a top priority is this. Oyo State athletes did well at the last National Sports Festival (NSF) and we promised to motivate them by paying them some money.
“I believe the next State Exco meeting is going to be on the first Tuesday in October, I hope that you and the Commissioner for Finance will be able to report to us that the payment has been made,” he said
Gov. Makinde however asked Adegoke not to put all the focus on the sports component of her Ministry “while neglecting the youth sector.
“Under youth empowerment, you should go through the roadmap, find the point of intersection between your Ministry and other ministries and approach them for collaboration.”
Speaking on behalf of the duo, Ajetunmobi thanked the governor for the opportunity given them to serve the state.
She assured that she and her colleague would work assiduously to deliver on the mandate and vision of the governor.
