Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved for immediate rehabilitation and reconstruction, a total of eight road projects in various zones of the state.
Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Professor Raphael Afonja, who revealed this development on Friday, said that infrastructural development remained a key focus of the present administration.
A statement made available on Friday by the Commissioner quoted the governor as saying that his administration was prepared to ensure the uplift of infrastructure in State, adding the government would ensure that adequate attention is given to road infrastructure that target the economic expansion drive of the state.
The statement further indicated that the determination to ensure infrastructural growth in the state informed the decision of Makinde to devote a large chunk of the 2020 Budget (23.93 per cent) to that sector.
It reinstated the decision of the administration to institute a culture of quality road construction in the State, adding that the government was ready to build roads that would stand the test of time.
According to the statement, the present administration in Oyo State has a 20-year plan for road sustainability in the State.
The statement reads in part: “Governor Seyi Makinde has also given approval for reconstruction of failed hydraulic structures in different geographical zones across the state.
“Some of our major roads within the State have been disconnected and this is occasioned by the collapse and dilapidation of the hydraulic structures (bridges and culverts) on these roads during the last year raining season.”

The statement added that engineers from the Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure had visited the locations of the affected hydraulic structures, while necessary appraisal reports have been submitted.
Afonja said: “The carefully selected roads from the various zones of the State, which were  approved by His Excellency for rehabilitation and reconstruction include the following:
1.  Airport -Ajia-New Ife Express way with spur to Amuloko (21KM).
2.  Apete-Awotan-Akufo junction road (12.0KM).
3.  Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho (44.70Km).
4.  Reconstruction of Under G-Stadium-LAUTECH Gate Road, Ogbomoso (3.0KM).
5.  Takie-FGGC Road, Ogbomoso (2.5KM).
6.  Reconstruction of Isaba-Ogundoyin Road, Eruwa (2.50KM).
7.  Rehabilitation of Gedu-Oroki-Sabo-Asipa Road, Oyo (5.20KM).
8.  Akingbile-Lagbeja-Ajibode road (3.0KM).”
