The Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, has appointed Alhaji Yekini Abass, popularly known as Y.K Abass, as President- General  of all markets in the state.

This is contained in a statement  on Saturday in Ibadan by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun.

Olatunbosun said  the appointment was sequel to the ratification of Abass’s nomination by the State Market Leaders’ Council at its meeting held on September 27.

He said the state Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives, Chief Bayo Lawal, presented the letter of appointment to the president-general, also known as Babaloja-General, on Friday, at the ministry, state secretariat Agodi,  Ibadan.

The commissioner said that  due process was followed in the appointment of the Babaloja-General.

“The issue before us today has started since 2013, that is the appointment of Babaloja-General of Oyo State.

“But I am glad that with the help of God, and also that of my principal, the governor, we are able to achieve the seemingly unachievable.

“And  today, despite all the crisis, we are able to follow due process as dictated by the court and judgment interpreted by the Ministry of Justice, we are able to produce babaloja general of Oyo state.”

He advised Abass to embrace all other contestants in the race, so as to succeed in the new position.

In his acceptance speech, Abass  expressed  gratitude to Makinde for handing over the baton of the affairs of all markets in the state to him.

He promised to use his wealth of experience to the growth of the markets, economy of the state and the general welfare of all traders in the state.

He solicited maximum support and cooperation from all stakeholders in piloting the affairs of the traders and markets in general as he could  only achieve success through their cooperation and support.
