david_cameron2British Prime Minister David Cameron on Thursday said “nothing in Islam justifies this dreadful attack” which left a soldier dead in London.

Cameron who cut short his trip to Paris, addressed at a news conference on the extremist attack carried out by two men near a military barrack in Woolwich South east London on Wednesday.

He said terrorism had taken the lives of more Muslims than any other religion, while expressing UK’s commitment to remain resolute in its stand against violent extremism and terrorism.

“The people who did this were trying to divide us but they should know that something like this will only make us stronger.

“It is not just an attack on Britain and the British way of life but a betrayal of Islam.

“There is no justification for this act, and the fault lies solely and purely with those responsible, ” Cameron said.

He urged the public not to be deterred by the incident saying, “one of the best ways to defeat terrorism is to go about our normal lives.”

The Western Europe Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports widespread condemnation of the attack by Muslim leaders in the UK, and Europe.

According to BBC sources, both attackers are British of Nigerian descent, and one has been named as Micheal Adebolajo, a 28 year old Muslim convert.

In the same vein, Mr Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London described the incident as horrific saying that those responsible “will be brought speedily to justice”.

Johnson who visited the scene of the attack said, Islam or the British foreign policy should not be blamed for the incident as the attackers acted on their own.

He urged members of the public to go about their normal business.

NAN reports that investigations have commenced to ascertain the motives behind the attack, and where the assailants were radicalised.
