Liverpool have reportedly parted ways with manager Arne Slot following an end-of-season review, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure at Anfield after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign.
The development was reported by several football outlets and further fuelled by claims from transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, who stated that the Dutch tactician and Liverpool had agreed to separate with immediate effect.
According to Romano, “It’s over between the Dutch manager and Liverpool after end-of-the-season review,” while adding that Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has emerged as the leading contender for the vacant position
Slot’s departure comes less than two years after he arrived at Liverpool and guided the club to a remarkable Premier League title in his first season.
However, the Reds endured a difficult campaign this season, suffering a significant drop in form. The club reportedly lost 20 matches across all competitions and only secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League on the final day of the season after a 1-1 draw against Brentford.
The disappointing performances, coupled with concerns over the team’s tactical direction and overall progress, are believed to have influenced the decision by Liverpool’s ownership group to make a managerial change.
Attention has now shifted to the search for a new head coach, with Iraola widely tipped as the frontrunner to take charge at Anfield.
Liverpool are yet to issue an official statement on the reported development. However, the club is expected to move swiftly in appointing a successor as preparations begin for the 2026/27 season.
