Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has assured Ukraine of his country’s continued support during a visit to Kiev.
“We would support Ukraine until victory over evil is achieved. Lithuania would continue to assist Ukraine with weapons and ammunition, training and financial support.
“This is our joint struggle for freedom,” Nausėda said after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev.
Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for 18 months with Western support.
The EU and NATO country Lithuania, which borders the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad and Russia’s ally Belarus, is among Kiev’s key supporters in Kiev’s effort.
According to Nausėda, Vilnius has approved a long-term plan for military aid worth around 200 million euros (217 million U.S. dollars).
Zelensky thanked Nausėda, Lithuania and all Lithuanians on Telegram “for their significant support for our country and people.”
The government in Vilnius says it has provided military, humanitarian and financial aid worth one billion euros since the beginning of the conflict.
