‘Let Us Disagree Without Disrespect…’ AGGSOGA President urges women at Award Ceremony

By Dupe Olaoye-Osinkolu

The Sango-Ota Branch of the Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School Old Girls Association (AGGSOGA) honoured its National President, Mrs. Solape Ajibola, with a special award on January 29, 2026, recognising her outstanding leadership and dedication to the association.

In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Ajibola emphasised the importance of building and preserving the association’s legacy, urging members to be “builders, not destroyers”. She encouraged the women to strive for excellence, unity, and purpose, saying, “Let us be women who add value, not tension. Women who heal, not harm. Women who correct with love, not cruelty.”

Speaking further, she said: “Our association must not only be strong in number, but strong in spirit. Strong in values. Strong in purpose. Let us disagree without disrespect. Let us lead without ego. Let us serve without seeking applause.

“As I accept this honour, I do so not as a destination reached, but as a call to do more — to serve better, to listen deeper, and to build stronger bridges among us.

“May we leave this gathering reminded that legacy is not what we receive, but what we preserve and improve.

“Thank you for this honour.
Thank you for believing in me.
May we continue to rise — together.

“It takes only a moment to tear down, but it takes years to build.
It takes little effort to spread discouragement, but great character to sow hope.
It takes strength to correct, but even greater strength to correct with love.

“Let us build trust, not suspicion.
Let us build unity, not factions.
Let us build people, not egos.

“When we speak, let our words heal.
When we disagree, let our respect remain.
When we lead, let humility guide us.

“Because what we destroy today may be the shelter our children will seek tomorrow.

This award I receive today is not an end — it is a reminder. A reminder that leadership is stewardship, and honour is a call to deeper service. I recommit myself to building bridges, strengthening bonds, and preserving the values that make this association a place of pride.

May God grant us wisdom to build wisely, patience to build carefully, and love to build together…”

The event was attended by distinguished elders, including Mrs. Amope Ajibola-Chokor, a former Head of Service of Ogun State, and Mrs. Victoria Mobolaji Ololade, Branch President, who commended Mrs. Ajibola’s tireless efforts in promoting the association’s growth and development.

In her welcome address, the Branch President, Mrs Mobolaji Ololade said the association is a support system for members in joy and challenges.
She encouraged members to be more committed, participate actively, and contribute meaningful ideas. She added that the branch should “give back to Abeokuta Girls Grammar School through mentorship, support, and collaborative projects”.
She also urged members to prioritize their health and well-being as she prayed that the new year brings good health, peace, and divine favour to members and their families.
