As the 40-day Lenten Season begins on Wednesday, Motailatu Church of God will start the Christian festivity – known as Ash Wednesday – with an anointing service in all its parishes.
According to a statement by the Secretary to the Board of Motailatu Organisation Worldwide, Superintendent James Akinadewo, and a Trustee, Most Senior Apostle Godfrey Dottie, the period, being a season of penance, will be marked with the anointing service to be coordinated by elders of the church “in all our parishes”.
“By observing the 40-day Lenten season, we are replicating the sacrifice of Jesus Christ when he withdrew into the wilderness for 40 days. Also, as laid down by the founder of Motailatu Organisation Worldwide, Archbishop Isaiah M. Akinadewo (Omo Jesu), “all members of the church will attend the anointing service, fasting”.
The statement says the Chairman of the Board of the church, Senior Superintendent Gabriel Akinadewo (Omo Jesu II), has directed Ministers-in-Charge of parishes “to ensure that all members follow the basic tenets of the church for the season”
The Lenten Season ends on April 9 (Palm Sunday) while Easter Sunday holds on April 16.
