Third Republic Deputy Senate President, Albert Legogie, is dead, his first cousin, Mr Cletus Agianaku, confirmed in Benin on Tuesday.
Agianaku told newsmen that Legogie aged 66, died on Monday at 4pm at a private hospital in Ugbowo, Benin.
“By the grace of God, my brother passed on at about 4pm at a private hospital in Ugbowo, Benin on Monday after a brief illness,’’ he said.
Agianaku is the one coordinating other family members at Legogie’s Reuben Agho residence, GRA Benin.
He described the late senator as a national figure, a principled, disciplined and astute politician.
A condolence register has been opened at his family house.
Meanwhile, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo has described the death Legogie as painful.
Mr Mathew Urhokhide, the PDP Publicity Secretary in Edo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Benin that Legogie contributed to the socio-economic and political development of Nigeria.
Urhokhide said that his political associates and Nigerians would remember him as one of those patriots who fought for the realisation of the annulled June 12 election.
“We will surely miss his wealth of experience,’’ Urhokhide said.
Legogie represented Edo North Senatorial District at the Senate.
