Rep. Jeremiah Umaru (APC-Nasarawa) has assured his constituents of Nasarawa North Federal Constituency that he would tackle the recurrence of insecurity in the zone.

Umaru gave the assurance at a reception organised by his constituents who are staff of the National Assembly in his honour on Tuesday in Abuja.

He decried the recent attacks by gunmen on the residence of a former Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku in Akwanga Local Government Area.

Umaru described as worrisome the menace of insecurity in the zone which has affected lives and property.

“I have moved motions for there to be more security presence. This is because, we have barracks in Keffi and around Lafia but we don’t have any barrack around Nasarawa North.

“So we need the presence of more security personnel that will enlighten our people on the need to be security conscious, ’he said.

He also called on all stakeholders in the zone and in the state in general to pool efforts together to tackle the menace headlong.

Umaru further said that he would ensure the completion of  zonal intervention projects left behind by his predecessor.

“The zonal intervention projects are not for the former member, it is for the zone. We will follow it up.

“We have spoken with the Speaker of the House of Representatives to ensure that those organisations do what they ought to do to ensure the well execution of the projects,’’ he said.

He said the six bills he proposed included that to establish the  Federal University of Education in Akwanga, Agro Energy Technical Institute in Nasarawa-Eggon and National Vocational Technical Institute in Wamba.

Earlier, the Convener, Nasarawa North Community in National Assembly, Mr. Bitrus Corosi, congratulated the lawmaker on his inauguration.

“We are proud of you; we celebrate your victory. Your landslide victory was an act of God and it was well-deserved.

“God brought you to deliver the zone. We are your first aides and we identify with you
