LASU_gateProf. John Obafunwa, Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, said on Saturday that the institution’s authorities were working toward the completion of the proposed hostels project before the end of 2013.

He made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Obafunwa had, at the institution’s last convocation press briefing, said that one of the major tasks in restructuring and repositioning the institution was to make it residential.

“Right now, I want to say that we have intensified efforts at ensuring that we meet up with the delivery of that mandate.

“The Governing Council, through the Pro-Chancellor, is working toward putting a design for a prototype.

“As for the proposed site, it has been earmarked and all hands are on deck to ensure the quick commencement and completion of the project.

“So, I expect that before the end of this year, something will happen,” the vice-chancellor assured.

Obafunwa said that on completion of the hostels, it would give succour to both the students and the staff.

He said that making the university residential would assist in checking the false claims by those miscreants who often paraded themselves as students of the institution.

The vice-chancellor said that it would also serve as a way of fostering peace and harmony amongst the students and staff, and further re-position the institution as a world class university.
