The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has completed the acquisition of property formerly occupied by Omega Power Ministries (OPM) after paying the previously offered ₦123 million compensation.
This is contained in a statement posted on LAMATA’s official X handle on Monday.
According to the agency, the property was acquired for the Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) project, a key step in the state government’s plan to improve public transport infrastructure.
Earlier this year, OPM raised concerns about the initial compensation offer. However, LAMATA said it addressed these issues through dialogue and transparent engagement, ensuring a fair resolution.
“With a Power of Attorney document, a representative of Mr Chibuzor Chinyere, Mr Okechukwu Nnannah, accepted the compensation, closing any disputes over the acquisition process,” LAMATA stated.
LAMATA’s Managing Director, Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, was represented by Technical Adviser Planning, Mr Osa Konyeha, who presented the cheque during the handover.
Konyeha was accompanied by Dr Babatunde Osho, MD of Global Impact Environmental Consulting Ltd., Kolawole Ojelabi, Head of Corporate Communication, and Abiola Ajayi, Corporate Legal Secretary at LAMATA.
The QBC project, a major part of Lagos’s transport strategy, will create four priority bus corridors along Ketu-Alapere-Akanimodo, Yaba-Lawanson-Ijesha-Cele, Abule Egba-Iju Ishaga, and Igando-Iyana Iba.
This initiative aims to improve travel times, ease congestion, and enhance the commuting experience for Lagos residents.
LAMATA’s successful resolution of this matter highlights its commitment to efficient project execution and strong stakeholder engagement.
“The QBC project will help build a more sustainable and accessible transport network for Lagos,” the agency noted.
