The Lagos Women Run, an initiative of Gym Assured, Marathon & Road Race Organisation, in conjunction with the Lagos State Government, takes place on Saturday.

The 10km road race being staged by a dedicated group of women with professional backgrounds in sports management has attracted huge response at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, where the Exhibition and other pre-events started since Tuesday.

The event, now in its 9th edition, has grown and is has attracted some runners outside Nigeria for this edition.

Some of the runners are from other states of the federation while some experienced international runners are also involved in the annual race.

The coordinator of the project, Tayo Popoola, says the objective of the Lagos Women Run is to encourage women to embark on a journey towards fitness and general well-being, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“During the week long programme, various issues affecting women were discussed while some of the participants were also encouraged to embrace simple things that could better their respective homes.

“For the D-Day, we are fully set to make everybody enjoy this race. We thank Lagos State government for putting smiles on the faces of women,” Popoola said.

The Start point for today’s race in the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, while the Mobolaji Johnson Arena is the Finish point.
