A fatal gas tanker explosion has claimed one life and left two others injured in the Sangotedo area of Lagos State according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA)
The incident occurred at Ologuro bus stop where emergency responders were swiftly deployed to manage the situation.
In a statement issued in Lagos, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the agency’s emergency response unit, known as the Shark Team arrived promptly at the scene.
Preliminary findings revealed that the explosion was triggered after a tipper truck, reportedly without a visible registration number, collided with a gas tanker from behind.
Authorities attributed the crash to reckless driving and excessive speed by the tipper truck driver.
The driver, identified as an adult male, died from injuries sustained in the accident.
Two women who were caught in the incident suffered minor injuries and were treated by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS)
The explosion also caused significant property damage, with at least four roadside shops engulfed in flames.
Emergency responders, including LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and LASAMBUS, worked together to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
Officials confirmed that the fire has been successfully brought under control, while recovery and clean-up operations remain ongoing.
LASEMA assured residents that further updates would be provided as the situation develops.
