The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the successful containment of a gas pipeline fire that occurred along the Agege Motor Road, close to Ile Zik in the Agege area. Fortunately, the incident resulted in no fatalities or injuries.

In a statement, Mr. Olawale Afolabi, the Head of Public Affairs at LASEMA, provided details of the incident, confirming that the affected pipeline was operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.). The emergency response began promptly after distress calls were made to the state’s toll-free lines, 767 and 112.

LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team arrived at the scene around 3:13 a.m. to find the pipeline engulfed in flames. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Afolabi highlighted the swift action taken to mitigate damage. He attributed the absence of casualties to the quick evacuation of nearby residents and the establishment of a secure perimeter around the site.

The fire was brought under control thanks to a coordinated response from multiple agencies, including the LASEMA Response Team (LRT), LASEMA Response Unit (LRU), and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. The pipeline valve was promptly shut, and the fire was extinguished.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, reassured residents that the situation had been fully contained. He further noted that the Lagos State Government, in collaboration with NNPC Ltd., would ensure the affected pipeline undergoes integrity checks before it is reactivated.
