The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has told a former member of the party, Mr Deji Doherty, to desist from interfering in matters of the party as he had decamped to the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress APC since 2023.
The PDP reminded Doherty that his membership of APC, which was confirmed by the Deputy Governor of Lagos, Obafemi Hamzat, on national television in aftermath of the 2023 genaral elections has not been debunked by he (Doherty) till day.
The party equally advised Doherty to use his energy on gaining ground for his membership within the APC, rather than creating the impression that he is still a member of opposition party.
“The PDP in Lagos can understand your frustration, you’ve ceased to be a member of our party since 2023 as pronounced by the Lagos Deputy Governor who announced your defection to their party on national television, the position you have not debunked up till this day. We urge you to dedicate your energy to gaining relevance along your cohorts who jumped ship in your APC”, the opposition party said.
The PDP said it wouldn’t have bothered to dignify Doherty with a reply as he was a persona non grata even while he was a member of the party, but wishes to set the record straight that he Doherty and those he claimed were forced out of the party over power tussle, were never loyal members, rather they were blood sucking avaricious individuals before leaving the party.
The party queried the ground upon which Doherty was interfering in the issue of PDP congresses, when he is a member of the APC, stating that such interference amounts to crass absurdity .
“We watched with disgust a video posted on Internet where Deji Doherty, a former PDP member, whose stay in our party was characterised by crises of self adulation and campaign resources mismanagement, pontificating about abuse of power by a leader he didn’t mention. We ask, what’s his business with the PDP, when he and his comrades have switched their loyalty to the APC in Lagos? They are living in illusion if they think they can remain as moles in our party and be working for their new paymaster. Hamzat Lagos Deputy governor has exposed them and they have not debunked the position up till now”.
