The Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has solicited massive support of the electorate for the 57 candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the July 12 Local Government elections.

Obasa made the appeal in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday.

Freedomonline reports that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission has slated elections for Saturday into the 57 LGAs and Local Council Development Authorities.

The speaker said that the APC remains committed to grassroots development and has a proven track record of delivering dividends of democracy to the people.

He also said that the state would continue to out-perform other states in the country due to election of progressive-minded individuals, who prioritise the welfare of citizens.

“The incoming chairmen and councillors will perform, if given the mandate to serve. At the primaries, we voted for those we trust and believe in.

“We urge Lagos residents to support them. Our party knows how to make life better for the people, and we intend to do even more,” he said.

Obasa also appealed to APC candidates from the Lagos West Senatorial District to intensify their efforts through door-to-door campaigns and grassroots mobilisation to ensure victory at the polls.

In a show of solidarity, the speaker said he made a generous financial contribution to support the campaign activities of the candidates, reassuring them of the Assembly’s unwavering support before and after the elections.

Obasa also advised the candidates not to rely solely on the party’s popularity but to sustain aggressive campaigns until the election day.

“I want to urge every member of the community, regardless of ethnicity or religion on the need for candidates to directly supervise their campaign teams,” the speaker said.

He further charged them to adopt a service-oriented mindset upon assuming office, stressing you should focus on serving your constituents with integrity, commitment and uphold democratic values and institutions.”

Obasa also highlighted the state’s unique governance model, which allows local government chairmen enjoy a full four-year tenure.

He added that this was an advantage that allows for long-term planning and impactful grassroots development.
